A common misconception is that there is “no cure” for the loss of skin pigmentation associated with Vitiligo. Harnessing advances in UVB technology, We offer a highly effective treatment option achieving favorable results for most patients.
What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a form of leukoderma or loss of skin pigmentation. Vitiligo develops as white spots in the skin that vary in size and location. This skin discoloration occurs when melanocytes are destroyed and melanin can no longer be produced. The exact causes for Vitiligo are still unknown, though severe trauma such as burns can also destroy pigment cells. Stretch marks, acne scars, post-surgical and traumatic scars may also produce a similar loss of pigment.
How can this long term skin condition be improved?
The UVB hand-piece produces short pulses of 295-350nm light which have been demonstrated to successfully treat leukoderma skin diseases, including vitiligo. While most UV therapies require treatments that expose both the effected and healthy skin, Alma’s UVB procedures only require treatment of affected areas, which minimizes the risk of injury to the surrounding areas and significantly reduces treatment times. UVB light therapy can be performed using Excimer 308 devices with minimal to no side effects and zero downtime.
